2012 proved to be another successful year for Glacial Ridge Ambulance’s Sixth Annual Holiday Toy Drive benefiting area families.

Through the kindness of our residents and organizations, Glacial Ridge Ambulance aided in facilitating smiles on neighboring children this past Christmas morning. In addition to toys, they can now play outside – comfortably – because of the winter clothing that was donated or purchased to fulfill their wish lists.

“We want to thank all those who gave in these uncertain times,” said Greg Meyers, Glacial Ridge Ambulance manager, “with a special thank you to our schoolchildren who collected and donated toys for those less fortunate – their peers in this case. It’s a good life lesson for them to learn; caring for others is what it’s all about.”

There were great turnouts at the toy collection days at Shopko Hometown in Glenwood and the Brooten Fire Hall. Glacial Ridge Ambulance also received over $3,100 in donations, used to purchase toys at Shopko Hometown, Fleet Supply, Family Dollar and Screen Prints Plus. All of the business owners offered discounts that were much appreciated by the ambulance crew out shopping. More toys and even some Lakers gear was able to be purchased for the toy drive because of their bigheartedness.

Jared Swanson, Glacial Ridge Ambulance EMT stated, “After counting everything that was donated and purchased, there were over 900 items.” The BBE Elementary School and Armful of Love, a Pope County Family Collaborative program distributed them to less fortunate families in the community. Armful of Love alone served 170 families (392 kids) throughout Pope County this Christmas.
Swanson added, “Hundreds of kids had a merrier Christmas because of the generosity shown to our Holiday Toy Drive. We are thankful to have been a part of that.”

Glacial Ridge Ambulance wants to thank all of the individual donors and the following organizations for their monetary support used to purchase toys at local retailers: Belgrade Lions Club, Brooten Commercial Club, Glenwood Fire Department, Gust F.
